Easiest AP Classes Ranked (2026) — By Pass Rate & 5 Rate
Not all AP exams are created equal. Some have 70%+ pass rates while others have fewer than 50% of students scoring a 3 or higher. Here's a data-driven ranking of the easiest AP classes based on actual College Board score data.
How We Ranked Difficulty
We used three metrics:
- Pass rate — % of students scoring 3 or higher
- 5 rate — % of students scoring a 5
- Student-reported difficulty — workload and conceptual difficulty
An "easy" AP exam is one where a prepared student has a high chance of scoring 3 or above.
The Easiest AP Classes (2026)
1. AP Psychology — Easiest Overall
- Pass rate (3+): 70%
- 5 rate: 22%

4. AP Calculus BC — Easiest High 5 Rate
- Pass rate (3+): 70%
- 5 rate: 39%

Easiest AP Classes for College Credit
If your goal is simply to earn college credit, focus on exams where a 3 is achievable:
Best bang for effort:
- AP Psychology — most colleges accept a 3, and 70% of students pass
- AP Human Geography — widely accepted, high pass rate
- AP Macro/Micro — two credits possible if you take both
Avoid if you just want easy credit:
- AP English Literature — only 54% pass, and many selective schools don't give credit for it
- AP Environmental Science — lower pass rate than expected for a "science lite" exam
Should You Take the Easiest AP Classes?
Not necessarily. Colleges care more about whether you challenged yourself with rigorous courses than whether you aced easy ones. A 4 on AP Chemistry looks better than a 5 on AP Psychology to most admissions officers.
The right strategy:
- Take APs in subjects you're strong in OR genuinely interested in
- Use our score calculators to understand what raw score you need before signing up
- Don't load up on easy APs just for the credit — depth matters more than breadth
