- AP CS A uses Java. Know the AP Java subset: ArrayList, 2D arrays, inheritance, interfaces, and recursion are always tested.
- FRQ 3 is always an ArrayList question and FRQ 4 is always a 2D array — guaranteed. Prepare worked examples for each.
- On writing FRQs, partial credit is awarded per method. If you can't complete a method, write pseudocode in comments and implement what you can.
- A 26% five-rate makes AP CS A one of the easier exams to score well on. Strong programmers who practice FRQ writing regularly will score 4 or 5.
- The GridWorld case study is no longer on the exam. Focus on the standard AP CS A labs (MagPie, Elevens, Picture Lab) if your teacher assigns them.
